Regular Dental Exams are Key to Preventing Diseases

Regular dental exams can help you maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Dr. Jason L. Downey offers comprehensive dental exams, which include cleanings and a complete evaluation to ensure that our patients have healthy gums and teeth. Regular dental cleanings and exams are crucial to disease prevention and early diagnosis and treatment of many oral health conditions.

Dr. Downey recommends that patients schedule dental exams at least twice a year at our Las Vegas, NV office.

What to Expect at Your Dental Exam

When you come to our office for your dental exam and cleaning, one of our skilled hygienists will clean your teeth and evaluate your gums for any signs of gum disease. Once your cleaning is complete, Dr. Downey will perform a thorough dental examination.

He will examine your teeth to check for cavities and evaluate the strength of your enamel. Dr. Downey will also inspect any fillings, crowns, dentures, or bridgework in case it needs to be repaired or replaced. He may also take x-rays to view your teeth roots, fillings, and jawbone. He always performs an oral cancer screening to look for any early signs of oral cancer.

Dr. Downey will also evaluate your jaws for signs of TMJ disorder and ensure your bite is balanced. If you have noticed any abnormalities, such as sensitivity or aches in your mouth, please let the doctor know during your exam.

Regular dental cleanings and exams are crucial to disease prevention and early diagnosis, both of which can ensure effective treatment.

Benefits of Regular Dental Exams

Going to your dentist’s office for an exam twice a year might not sound like a time-and money-saving exercise. However, because regular dental exams can prevent conditions like gum disease and can diagnose diseases such as oral cancer in its early stages, regular visits prevent the advancement of disease, which saves you time and money in the long run.

The longer you put off going to your dentist, the more advanced a disease can become, which can result in pain and the need for lengthy or expensive treatments. Undergoing a dental exam every six months will help you avoid the pain and costs of such procedures.

Candidates

Dr. Downey recommends and provides regular dental exams to patients of all ages. Children should have their first dental exam within six months of growing their first tooth. Continuing to attend regular dental exams is important at all stages of life.

In children and teens, exams allow us to help teach them the correct way to brush and floss, and we can also catch conditions such as an underbite or overbite that may need to be corrected through orthodontics.

In both children and adults, regular exams and cleanings can prevent or detect disease early, which can result in patients keeping their teeth longer. Regular dental exams are just as important for seniors to prevent uncomfortable conditions from developing.
