Gum Disease Treatment

Las Vegas Gum Disease TreatmentGum disease is a problem that is more common than you probably realize. In fact, studies show that eighty five percent of adults suffer from some degree of gum disease. Many may also not be aware of how serious a problem gum disease can be. It is the leading cause of adult tooth loss. At At Jason L. Downey, DDS Dentistry, we’sLas Vegas cosmetic dentistry practice, we offer gum disease treatment that utilizes the most advanced dental technology. This allows us to diagnose gum disease in its earliest stages and provide thorough treatment for our patients.

Diagnosing Gum Disease

Sometimes a person can have gum disease without even realizing it. In some cases, there are no visible symptoms. For those patients who do have noticeable signs of gum disease, the symptoms can range from bad breath, to bleeding gums, to loose teeth. The only way to receive a definitive diagnosis is through a dental exam. At most dental practices, this involves a manual examination where a metal instrument is pressed into the gum line to measure the depth of gum tissue pockets. At Jason L. Downey, DDS Dentistry, we use the Florida Probe System. This allows us to diagnose gum disease more accurately. It is also a more comfortable experience for our patients. With the Florida Probe System, an electronic probe is used to measure pockets of decay and detect any bone loss. You will actually be able to hear the results as the exam is being performed. With the use of this diagnostic devise, we can detect gum disease early on and begin treatment immediately.

Gum Disease Treatment

There are several options for gum disease treatment. Depending on how severe each patient’s case is, the treatment can be fairly simple or, in extreme cases, may require surgical intervention. Because we are able to diagnosis treatment early on at our practice, most of our patients are able to avoid surgery. In most cases, we will be able to treat gum disease with a deep cleaning of the teeth and gums alongside an Arestin® treatment. Arestin® is a medication that has been approved for use by the FDA. It is a powdery substance that is placed inside the pockets of decay. Gradually, the medication is released and helps patients fight off infection. We place the Arestin® immediately following your dental cleaning so there will be no need to return for a second appointment and no reason to take an oral antibiotic.

Another important step of gum disease treatment will be repairing any damage that has been caused. For our patients inLas Vegas, dental crowns, dental fillings, or root canal therapy are all restorative treatments that are available to repair the damage of gum disease and protect the teeth against additional damage.
